About Barryroe Co-opBarryroe Co-op is a farmer owned multi-purpose agribusiness. Its range of business includes purchasing milk, grain and pigs from its farmer shareholders, manufacturing animal feedstuffs, supplying farm inputs, building materials and hardware, as well as grocery retailing.
Through its Staunton Foods subsidiary, it is involved in pork processing.Its Barryroe Properties subsidiary holds investment properties which provide a stream of rental income for the group.
Founded in 1925, the group now employs 350 staff and has an annual turnover of €200 million. Its retail operations service the needs of the Co-op’s owners, providing goods and services to the rural communities stretching from Ring, Clonakilty on the west to the Old Head of Kinsale on the east. The Co-op services this coastal area of west Cork through its five branches: Barryroe, Ballinspittle, Inchybridge, Kilbrittain and Darrara.
Milk: Barryroe Co-Op purchases 100 million litres of milk annually from the area’s 170 suppliers. This is delivered to Carbery Milk Products which is owned by Barryroe and its fellow west Cork co-op’s, Bandon, Drinagh, Lisavaird and acts as a central processing facility for all four.
Grain: Barryroe Co-op is a major purchaser of grain in the area. It operates a thriving mill, manufacturing forty five thousand tons annually, meeting demand from both its dairy and pig customer base.
Pork: Staunton Foods is the major pig purchaser and pork processor in County Cork. It supplies the multiples and the wholesale butcher trade and is a major exporter of pork.
